China Mine Explosion Leaves 31 Dead, 118 Trapped
(RTTNews) - A gas explosion ripped through a coal mine in a northeastern Chinese city bordering Russia early Saturday, killing more than 31 workers and leaving 118 trapped.
The official Xinhua news agency reported that the blast occurred around 2.30 am local time (1830 GMT Friday) at the mine situated in Hegang city in China's Heilongjiang province, when 528 miners were working in the pit.
It said rescuers had retrieved 15 bodies while another 114 people were still reportedly trapped in the Xinxing Coal Mine, owned by the Heilongjiang Longmei Mining Holding Group, based (continued...)
